Does a heat pump / air conditioner ever need re-gassing?

If a heat pump / air conditioner is installed correctly then it should never need to be re-gassed. There is no such thing as stale gas or expired gas, the only reason for re-gassing will be if there is a leak in the system and this should be checked by a qualified heat pump / air conditioning technician.
